We are sending you this letter to update you on the current status of the Toyota and Lexus of Knoxville Collision Center. We know that many of you were affected by the recent hail storms in the area. It is estimated that as many as 800,000 vehicles were damaged by these storms.
Local and national insurance companies, as well as our in house estimators, have been continuously writing damage estimates for these repairs. Once damages are estimated and claims have been submitted, parts are ordered to repair the vehicles. Due to the tsunami in Japan, not all of the necessary parts and paint colors have been readily available, as parts and assembly plants have been shut down until supply lines are re-established. Toyota Motor Company and other manufacturers are working diligently to overcome this issue. Once parts are available and the vehicle is brought in for repairs, it is common to identify additional parts that need replacement that were not evident during the initial inspection. If this happens, supplemental estimates must be written and then approved by the insurance company prior to us proceeding with the repairs on the vehicle, causing further delays in getting the vehicle properly repaired.
Due to the hail storm, our collision center receives an unprecedented amount of calls on a daily basis. We estimate that the time needed to fully repair every vehicle damaged from the storm will be up to 2 years. In addition to those vehicles, we are repairing vehicles that have been in accidents as well.

What does this mean for you? If your vehicle is drive-able, please bear with us, it may be as late as next spring.
