If you’re searching for cars this year, you might understandably get lost in the amount of features available. There are so many new developments that customers can be entirely forgiven for being overwhelmed. If you’ve never had blind spot monitoring before, do you really need it? Are Toyota’s safety features that much better than Honda’s? Is it really worth doing the research to find out? Before you make your final decision about which car to buy though, learn more about how Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) delivers an integrated safety package when it comes to preventing accidents.

Pre-Collision System

Pre-Collision System (PCS)

When a stray dog darts out in front of you just as you sneeze, there are few ways to stop the resulting accident if you don’t have active safety controls in place. The pre-collision system combines cameras and lasers that sense what’s happening in front of you, and gives alerts both visually and audibly. Should the driver react in time, the system won’t take any additional action. However, if the driver is otherwise unable to act, then Toyota Safety Sense uses the sensors to stop the car by automatically applying the brakes. PCS can’t eliminate the chances for an accident altogether, but it can significantly reduce your speed to either prevent or lessen the negative effects of a collision.

Lane Departure Warnings

Lane Departure Warnings and Automatic Highbeams

Toyota’s cameras come in handy again with the Lane Departure Alert (LDA.) This innovative system can detect exactly where the lines of the road are, and gives drivers a warning should the car start to drift across a solid double line. Just like the PCS, the LDA gives drivers cues that they can both see and hear. You’ll also enjoy automatic highbeams, so you get the best line of sight possible without blinding the oncoming drivers. If you’re headed down a country road that you know is likely to have crossing deer at any moment, you need your brights on so you have plenty of time to stop. This technology adjusts your headlights automatically if another car is coming so there’s less chance of an accident.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Radar Cruise Control

Radar Cruise Control is there to ensure you don’t creep too far up toward another car’s bumper. Whether it’s because of heavy traffic or you’re subconsciously trying to get the other driver to speed up a little, this system uses millimeter-wave radar that detects the proper distance, and then adjusts your speed automatically. It also eliminates the constant speed up/slow down game you may play when people are merging or exiting your lane. Using the same technology, it works to keep your vehicle at a constant pace for less jarring fits and starts, abated stress, and fewer visits to the gas pump.

TSS is available for both compact or mid-size cars, and a smart way to keep yourself safe and potentially lower you car insurance rates. By identifying the biggest threats to drivers today, Toyota provides total protection and peace of mind.
